Betsy Scapicchio, owner and training director at Top Dog Obedience School, has been teaching and training dogs successfully for over 30 years. She has worked with many breeds and sizes of dogs, both with her students and her own dogs. Four of her dogs were adopted from shelters or neglectful homes. Her personal credits include over sixty obedience titles, as well as seven Obedience Trial Championships, 22 perfect 200 scores on different breeds of dogs, plus numerous titles in U.K.C., Canada, and A.S.C.A. obedience. Each of the dogs that Betsy has shown has been awarded High in Trial. Betsy credits much of her success to her mentor and friend Terri Arnold who has always provided expert guidance and has been an inspiration to her.
Betsy's daughters are continuing in her footsteps. Her oldest, Kristan, and her first Sheltie Joey earned their UDX, along with over thirty OTCH points, many class placements, a Dog World Award, 11th place at the Pup-Peroni Eastern Regional in Open and a high in trial. Kristan now has a Sheltie puppy named Tide and they are training and hope to do just as well. Jackie and Bugs, a border terrier, earned their CDX and trained in utility. Joey and Bugs also earned their novice agility titles. Eighteen year old Lindsey and her sheltie, Drummer, earned their CDX, AX, AXJ, trained in Utility and also competed in many All Star Tournaments. Ashley, the youngest has a Papillion, Kodak and they are getting ready to show in Novice.
Top Dog Obedience School grew out of Betsy's ability not only to train her own dogs but to instruct others. From the beginning, she knew that she wanted to teach classes. She started instructing at Heel and Toe in 1980 and taught basic house manners in private lessons. She taught for a couple of clubs and acquired many private students, both pet and competition. So in 1990, she launched Top Dog. From its humble beginnings in a small garage, the school spread to a VFW hall and a church meeting room, but in January 1994 Top Dog got a home of its own at our current facility. With three rings and lots of space at a full-time facility, Betsy's school now has grown to over fifteen obedience classes a week, plus agility, private lessons, seminars, and all manner of dog events.
Little did she, or her husband Dave, know what a monumental decision they were making when Betsy took her first dog to training classes. Now Betsy is a successful full-time business woman, who also manages to be a wife, mother of four daughters, and successful competitor in dog obedience.

Rev is a puppy that Betsy kept from Chloe's litter and he is the grandson of Betsy's great dog "Jinx". He is fast, focused and lives to work. Rev is showing every sign of fulfilling the promise of his pedigree as he grows into quite a talented and handsome young man! Rev made his AKC Novice debut in Southern Maryland in Sept 2010 with two first places in two shows. He followed that in October by finishing his UKC Novice title showing 4 times and finishing with three scores of 199 and a perfect 200! In January 2011 Rev came back to AKC to finish his CD title and added another 199 and a bumper leg with a 199.5 to his scores and finished up in Novice by winning a run off for High in Trial. Now that's the way to come out in Novice! Rev made his Open debut with a splash! He scored a 199.5 on his first leg and a perfect 200 on his second leg! He finished his CDX by winning a three way run off with a 198. Rev turned out to be a real contender in the B rings, earning his UD and OTCH and his 6th 200 score. What a brilliant working dog with such a bright future!
Deacon is a long hair chihuahua and Betsy's new obedience partner. He has been sitting on the sidelines for long enough watching big brothers Dealer and Rev at all of the big trials. Betsy and Deacon tested the waters and made their obedience debut in Beginner Novice where Deacon easily earned his title. He and Betsy soon cam out in Novice and there is just nothing cuter in the ring. Team Deacon earned their CD with all first places and by winning a run off for high in trial! The HIT ribbon was bigger than him! Deacon easily got his CDX and UD titles. Look for Deacon later this year in the B rings, he'll be the little guy with the big attitude that will make you smile!

The following Spring, Neo came out and earned his AKC CD, CDX and UD all in one year! Only a week after he earned his UD title, Neo got a 200 in Utility and earned his first place towards his OTCH. He went on to earn more agility titles finishing his AX and OAJ. Neo finished his OTCh in February of 2005. That same year Neo was featured in Front & Finish magazine as one of the top obedience dogs in 2005!
CH. UCDX OTCH Breakout For My Eyes Only UDX, OA, OAJ ("Chloe"): Border Collie
Chloe was also sired by Betsy's Border Collie Jinx. Chloe and Neo are littermates and both have followed in their father's footsteps. Chloe finished her conformation Championship at the age of three, making her the third of Jinx's puppies to do so. The same day that she finished her Championship she got a High In Trial in the Novice class! Chloe went on to earn titles in both Agility and Obedience. She took 2nd place in Open in 2005 at the All Star competition and earned her OTCH in April of 2007. In January of 2008 Chloe took a break from trialing to whelp a litter of eight beautiful puppies. Then back into the obedience ring in May of 2009 where Chloe earned a perfect score of 200 at the Pennjy Obedience Club trial!
